LOVE LETTERS

by A R Gurney

with

Colin Baker and

Louise Jameson

LOVE LETTERS chronicles the lives, loves, triumphs and tragedies of Andrew Makepeace Ladd the 3rd and Melissa Gardner through their correspondence spanning more than a generation. With a bittersweet theme artfully disguised as comedy, it highlights the subtle yet potentially deadly flaws of upbringing and social conventions amongst America’s rich elite.

Although possessed by an irresistible mutual attraction, this pair of star-crossed lovers live their lives mainly at a distance, writing frequently over the 40+ years the play covers.  It is a tale of youthful passions, bold behaviour, stupidity, blind jealousy, but ultimately and tragically one that proves the old adage that the course of true love never did run smooth. It is an elegant and witty evening, beautifully crafted by one of America’s most gifted and prolific playwrights.
