How many mistakes? A future father in law mistaken for a publican, a future wife mistaken for the barmaid, jewels given to a bumpkin for safe-keeping, a break-neck long distance journey which ends where it started. All likely to lead to more - and they do. Fed up with the sentimental sitcoms of his age, Goldsmith offered stuff that still works: mistaken identity, practical jokes, pratfalls - and just enough true love. |
