Demolish the Redgrave?
Letter from the Prince of Wales's Deputy Private Secretary to the Farnham Theatre Association Clarence House London SW1A 1BA From: The Deputy Private Secretary to TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall 26 June 2007 The Prince of Wales has asked me to thank you for your letter of June 18th, concerning the proposals to redevelop Redgrave in Farnham. We have previously received correspondence from another resident concerned about the redevelopment proposals and most specifically the loss of the Redgrave Theatre. Sadly, as this is primarily a planning matter concerning the local council, His Royal Highness is unable to become personally involved on this occasion. The Prince of Wales is a strong advocate of the need for new development to be sensitive to its surroundings but I do hope you understand that it would be difficult to intervene. 1 have however consulted The Prince's Regeneration Trust over the potential loss of heritage buildings, in particular the Redgrave Theatre. The Trust feel the loss of a valued community facility such as the Redgrave Theatre is to be regretted and support you and the local and national pressure groups involved in seeking to save it from demolition. The Trust also applaud the commendable efforts of the Farnham Theatre Association and East Street Action to save the building and support any proposal by which Brightwell House, the listed late Georgian style villa adjoining the theatre is preserved for future use. I am sorry His Royal Highness is unable to intervene on the wider redevelopment proposals but may we wish you every success with your campaign. Yours sincerely
Manon Williams
